No Discussion Yet On Making Maha Mask-Free: State Health Minister Tope

Mumbai: In view of declining COVID-19 cases, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that even though the state government has eased COVID-19 restrictions in the recent past, people should continue wearing face masks and also follow other precautionary measures.

The Maharashtra government has given several relaxations in the last few weeks and more will be given in the coming days. However, this does not mean that people do not need to wear masks in the coming days, Tope said on Thursday.

Referring to the decision to allow people from some western countries to wear face coverings, Tope said it needed to be studied scientifically.

He clarified that there is no discussion yet on making Maharashtra mask-free and urged people to continue wearing masks and follow other precautionary measures.

He said that talks have been held between the task force of the state and central government in this regard.

Talking to reporters in Kolhapur, the minister also said that there is no need to impose any further restrictions in the coming days, news agency PTI reported.

“There is no need to impose additional restrictions in the coming days, as the daily COVID-19 cases are declining,” he said.

As Mumbai witnessed a significant drop in COVID-19 cases, Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Tuesday indicated that the city would be unlocked by the end of this month and stressed the need to resume all activities.

On Wednesday, Maharashtra recorded 7,142 fresh cases of Covid-19, 1,035 more than the day before. The death toll in the state rose by 92 and reached 1,43,247, as per the state health department.
