Odisha Lifts Night Curfew In All Urban Areas Amid Declining COVID-19 Cases

Mumbai: In view of declining COVID-19 cases, the Odisha government has decided to lift the night curfew in all urban areas of the state with effect from Friday.

Night curfew was in force from 10 pm to 5 am in all urban areas of the state, including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri, except for all non-essential travel. This was imposed on January 31 amid a surge in Covid-19 cases.

“The night curfew has been lifted in all urban areas of the state with effect from February 18, 2022,” said an order issued by the Office of the Special Relief Commissioner.

An official said, “With the number of Covid cases steadily declining in the state, the government has decided to further relax the restrictions.”

Odisha on Friday reported 671 new Covid-19 cases, taking the tally to 12,81,455. Among the new patients, 131 were children.

The daily positivity rate stood at 1.14 per cent, while 15 more people died. The patients who died in the last 24 hours included three boys and two 13-year-olds.

Odisha has so far reported 8,976 deaths.

There are 7,855 active cases in the state at present. Sundergarh district reported the highest number of new cases at 105, followed by Khurda (103) and Jajpur (47).
