Petrol Price Hiked For 14th Time In 2 Weeks, Touches ₹105 Per Litre In Delhi

Mumbai: Petrol and diesel prices hit fresh all-time highs across most parts of India on Friday after the fuel rates were hiked again. This is the 14th time that petrol price has been hiked in two weeks.

In Delhi, petrol and diesel prices were raised by Rs 0.35 per litre to Rs 105.14 per litre and Rs 93.87 per litre respectively.

Petrol in Mumbai rose by Rs 0.34 a litre to Rs 111.09 a litre on Thursday, the highest among all the four metro cities. Diesel rose by Rs 0.37 to Rs 101.78 in financial capital. Diesel prices have increased by Rs 5.27 per litre with 17 hikes in the last 20 days, an average increase of Rs 0.20 to Rs 0.35 during the period.

Petrol in Bengaluru is now selling at Rs 108.80 per litre and diesel at Rs 99.63 per litre. The price of a litre of petrol in Hyderabad is now Rs 109.37 and the cost of diesel is Rs 102.42 for a litre of diesel.

With the continuous hike, the price of diesel now exceeds Rs 100 per litre in many Indian cities. This is the first time that both petrol and diesel prices have crossed Rs 100 in many parts of the country.

Petrol prices were stable since September 5, but due to the rise in global crude oil prices, oil marketing companies (OMCs) initiated several hikes last week. Petrol prices were increased by Rs 3.60 per litre in 13 days in the last 16 days.

The price of petrol and diesel varies from state to state due to Value Added Tax (VAT). The daily changes, if any, are implemented by state-run OMCs Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) at 6 am every day.
