Tamil Nadu CM Announces ₹39 Cr Memorial For Karunanidhi; Opp’n Happy

Chennai: Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin on Tuesday announced that a ₹39 crore-memorial for DMK stalwart and ex-CM M Karunanidhi will be built in Chennai. The Opposition leaders of AIADMK welcomed this announcement, saying Karunanidhi introduced several welfare schemes in the state.

The memorial on the famous beach will be built on 2.21 acres of land, Stalin informed the state assembly.

Recalling the late DMK veteran’s contribution in various fields such as social welfare, transport, literature, education, urbanization and infrastructure development, Stalin hailed his father as the “sculptor of modern Tamil Nadu”.

On Karunanidhi’s demise, Stalin said, “After being in the limelight permanently for almost half a century, he went into permanent rest on August 7, 2018.” He did a lot for the Tamil community before his death.

“In recognition of her great work for Mother Tamil Nadu and to highlight her achievements and thoughts for the generations to come, a memorial will be erected for her in the premises of Anna Smarak (DMK founder and late CM). 39 crores. . ) CN Annadurai) in Kamarajar Salai on 2.21 acres,” Stalin said.

It will have modern pictorial illustrations about the late leader, the CM added.
