Top LeT Commander Killed In Encounter In J-K’s Baramulla

Mumbai: A top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Yusuf Lattu was killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday.

He said three soldiers were injured in the initial exchange of fire between the two sides.

Acting on specific information about the presence of terrorists in Malwah area of ​​North Kashmir’s Baramulla, security forces launched a cordon and search operation there, a police official said.

The search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists fired in retaliation.

Inspector-General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar said, “Top terrorist commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba Yusuf Kantru has been killed in Baramulla encounter.”

He said that Kantru was involved in several killings of civilians and security personnel.

“Kantru was also involved in the recent killing of a special police officer and his brother, a soldier and a civilian in Budgam district,” the IGP said. He said the killing of the Lashkar commander was “a great success for us”.

Kumar had earlier said in a tweet that three jawans suffered minor injuries in the initial firing. Arms and ammunition have been recovered, the police said.
