UP Govt Accords ‘Y’ Category Security To Rajbhar

Mumbai: The Uttar Pradesh government has provided ‘Y’ category security to the president of the Samajwadi Party’s alliance partner Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), Om Prakash Rajbhar.

Under the ‘Y’ category of security cover, 11 security personnel including two Personal Security Officers (PSOs) are provided security cover.

The development comes days after Rajbhar’s party severed ties with the SP and voted for Draupadi Murmu, the NDA’s candidate in the July 18 presidential election, to win over her rival and opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha.

In a letter to the Additional Director General of Police (Security), Vinay Kumar Singh, Joint Secretary, Home Department, said that it has been decided to temporarily increase ‘Y’ category security to SBSP President and Zahoorabad MLA Om Prakash Rajbhar. A senior official said in this regard.

Singh also asked the ADG to complete the necessary formalities in the matter.

When contacted, SBSP national spokesperson and Rajbhar’s son Arjun said that the party president is being provided ‘Y’ category security.

The SBSP had forged an alliance with the SP in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections held earlier this year. However, relations between the two allies have been straining for some time now.

SP president Akhilesh Yadav did not invite Rajbhar to a meeting convened in Lucknow in support of Sinha early this month, while another party ally and Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Jayant Chaudhary attended it.

Later, Rajbhar announced the SBSP would support Murmu but maintained that his six-MLA party was still part of the opposition grouping that fought the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections together.
