Uttarakhand To Implement Uniform Civil Code: CM Pushkar Singh Dhami

Mumbai: Uttarakhand government has taken the decision to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said on Friday.

“We have decided to implement the Uniform Civil Code in the state. Uttarakhand will be the second state after Goa to implement this.

“We will take UCC to the people, irrespective of religion and section of society,” Dhami assured during his address in Champawat.

Earlier on May 2, Himachal Pradesh CM Jai Ram Thakur had also announced that UCC would be brought into the state soon.

Although there has been a debate in many states of the country regarding UCC, but recently Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also supported it and said that UCC should be implemented in the interest of Muslim women otherwise polygamy will continue.

Notably, in the 2019 Lok Sabha election manifesto of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the BJP had promised to implement the UCC if voted to power.
