105 People, Including Tourists, Rescued After Flash Floods In Himachal

Mumbai: At least 105 people, including mostly tourists, were rescued after they were stranded due to flash floods in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul and Spiti on Sunday.

The tourists were taken to Koksar hours after the water level in the Dorni river rose due to heavy rains and flash floods, officials said. A parked vehicle was damaged due to the fall of the boulder.

Superintendent of Police Manav Verma said, “All those trapped till around 1.30 pm were rescued. They are all safe.” They have been provided with adequate food and logistics, he added.

The flash floods disrupted traffic on National Highway 505, which connects Sisu to Nako, forcing officials to launch a three-hour joint rescue operation, officials said.

He said the Border Roads Organization (BRO), district administration and state police are involved in the operation.

Despite reports of flash floods from four places in Lahulal and Spiti districts, the BRO pressed three trucks for rescue and blocked nine roads, officials said.

State minister Ram Lal Markanda was stranded in Miyar Valley after road connectivity was snapped due to flash floods.
