3 Terrorists Killed In Encounter In Srinagar’s Nowgam: J&K Police

Mumbai: The Jammu and Kashmir police on Wednesday said that they killed three unidentified terrorists in the Nowgam area of Srinagar.

They said that the encounter broke out after the militants opened fire on the security forces during a search operation in the area based on intelligence.

Security forces cordoned off the Nowgam area and launched a search operation after receiving specific information about the presence of terrorists in the area, a police official said.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the hiding militants opened fire on the security forces, who retaliated.

They have been identified as Adil Teli and Saqib Tantre of Shopian. The third is probably Omar Tell. We have called his family for identification. Kashmir’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) Vijay Kumar said all three were local Lashkar terrorists.

An AK-47 and two pistols were recovered from the encounter site, he said.

The IGP said three people were involved in the killing of the sarpanch, members of the Panchayati raj institution and the attack on protected persons in Khonmoh on March 9.

His murder is a big success for the police. We have busted all the modules involved in the recent killings of Sarpanches, CRPF etc including a Territorial Army jawan from Budgam.

Pakistan does not want the democratic process or development to continue, so they are targeting panchs, sarpanches. But we are giving them a befitting reply. We are identifying them, arresting them or neutralizing them in encounters, Kumar said.
