3 Women Farmers Killed, 2 Injured As Truck Runs Over Them Near Tikri Border

Mumbai: Three women farmers died while two more were injured after they were crushed by a speeding truck on Thursday morning near the farmers’ protest site at the Tikri border between Delhi and Haryana.

Police said the accident took place at Pakoda Chowk when the women were waiting for an autorickshaw to go towards Bahadurgarh railway station.

They were returning to their village in Punjab’s Mansa district after participating in a protest by farmers at the Tikri border against three controversial agricultural laws by the Centre.

The deceased have been identified as Chhinder Kaur (60), Amarjeet Kaur (58) and Gurmail Kaur (60). He was a resident of Khiva Dayaluwala village of Mansa. The injured were taken to PGIMS Rohtak.

Police said that the truck driver fled from the spot after the accident.

“At 5.30 am, 7 women protestors who were waiting on the road for transport to go to railway station to board a train to Mansa, Punjab was hit by a truck which had lost control. 3 women died, 4 injured in the incident. The truck driver is absconding. We are talking to farmer leaders,” Jhajjar SP said.

Lakhs of women have been participating in the farmers’ protest on the outskirts of Delhi since late last year demanding the complete withdrawal of the laws.
