32 Killed In K’taka So Far Amid Heavy Rains; CM Disburses ₹500 Cr For Restoration Work

Mumbai: As many as 32 persons have lost their lives so far in Karnataka due to rain-related incidents. CM Basavaraj Bommai said that ₹500 crores will be disbursed immediately for restoration work of basic infrastructure.

Bommai, after reviewing the flood-affected areas, said in Manipal, Udupi that a comprehensive report of the damage caused by the rains would be received from all the districts and then sent to the Center for relief under the National Disaster Relief Fund.

According to reports, 34 people have been injured and 300 people have been kept in different centres. Bommai said that four teams of NDRF and SDRF are taking relief measures and 14 relief camps have been set up in three districts.

Bengaluru has also suffered heavy damage to both public and private property in the recent rains. Rain water entered many houses in low-lying areas.

A major issue has been the persistent sea erosion in the coastal areas, the CM said and added that the government is now planning to go for sea wave-breaking technology used in parts of Kerala. He said that despite spending Rs 300 crore, the existing measures are not serving the purpose.
