This comes days after the CM had tweeted about similar plans.

“A decision to reduce VAT on fuel will be taken soon to provide relief to the people,” he had said in a tweet in Marathi on Monday.

At present, the price of petrol in Mumbai is Rs 111.35 per litre, while the price of diesel is Rs 97.28. In May, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman reduced the excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and on diesel by Rs 6.

In India, the price of petrol and diesel varies from state to state based on freight charges and local taxes (VAT). In addition, the central government levies excise duty on the two motor fuels.
