5 Women Killed, 6 Injured As SUV Hits Road Divider In Chhattisgarh’s Raipur

Mumbai: Five women were killed and six others got injured on Wednesday after the SUV they were travelling in hit a road divider on NH30 in Kendri area in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur, police said.

The victims were on their way to Rajim town of Gariaband district to participate in the Maghi fair. An official said that they were residents of the Durg district.

When their SUV was passing through the Kendri area on national highway number 30 this morning, it hit a road divider apparently after the driver lost his control of the vehicle, said Abhanpur Station House Officer (SHO) A A Ansari.

While four women died on the spot, another woman succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital, the SHO said, adding that the victims could not be identified, he said.

The accident briefly affected traffic on the highway before it was restored by the police. The SHO said that further investigation is underway, the SHO added.
