Over 86% Of Mumbai Population Has COVID-19 Antibodies: BMC’s Serosurvey
The report also noted that seroprevalence is much higher in vaccinated populations than in non-vaccinated people
Mumbai: The fifth serosurvey conducted by BMC between August 12 and September 8 showed that 86.64% of the 8,674 people surveyed in Mumbai have COVID-19 antibodies.
This is the fifth survey that was conducted between August 12 and September 8 and samples were collected from 8,674 candidates. All participants were over 18 years of age.
According to the survey, antibodies were found in 90.26 per cent of people who were fully or partially vaccinated, with antibodies present in 79.86 per cent of non-vaccinated citizens.
In 24 words, the study estimates that slums constitute about 87.02 per cent and non-slum settlements 86.22 per cent. The seroprevalence in males is 85.07 per cent and among females, the seroprevalence is 88.29 per cent which is higher than that of men.
About 65 per cent of study subjects received the COVID-19 vaccine and 35 per cent received no vaccine. Of the total samples, 20 per cent were health care workers. The seroprevalence among health care workers is 87.14 per cent.
Age-wise seroprevalence varied from 80 per cent to 91 per cent among study subjects. The study also noted that there is no statistically significant difference in the seroprevalence of Mumbai city and suburbs.
The survey also recommended strict adherence to proper COVID-19 practices such as wearing masks, frequent hand washing and maintaining social distancing. The report also noted that seroprevalence is much higher in vaccinated populations than in non-vaccinated people.
