India Responds To Pakistan’s Reaction Over Former BJP Leader’s Remark On Prophet Muhammad
Mumbai: India responded to Pakistan’s reaction over ex-BJP leader Nupur Sharma’s remark on Prophet Muhammad.
The government said, “The Government of India accords the highest respect to all religions. This is quite unlike Pakistan where fanatics are eulogized and monuments made in their honour.”
“We have noted statements and comments from Pakistan. The absurdity of a serial violator of minority rights commenting on the treatment of minorities in another nation is not lost on anyone. The world has been witness to the systemic persecution of minorities including Hindus, Sikhs, Christians and Ahmadiyyas by Pakistan,” MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in a statement.
“The Indian government accords the highest regard to all religions. This is in stark contrast to Pakistan, where fundamentalists are praised and monuments are erected in their honour,” Bagchi said in the statement.
“We call upon Pakistan to focus on the safety, security and welfare of its minority communities instead of trying to spread communal hatred and spreading communal hatred in India,” the statement said.
Sharif had tweeted, “I condemn in strongest possible words hurtful comments of India’s BJP leader about our beloved Prophet (PBUH). Have said it repeatedly India under Modi is trampling religious freedoms & persecuting Muslims. The world should take note & severely reprimand India. Our love for the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is supreme. All Muslims can sacrifice their life for the Love & Respect of their Holy Prophet (PBUH).”

Meanwhile, Pakistan on Monday said it has summoned Indian charge d’affaires to express its categorical disapproval and condemnation of the controversial remarks against the Prophet.
The Foreign Office (FO) said in a statement that the Indian diplomat was informed that these comments are completely unacceptable and hurt the sentiments of not only the people of Pakistan but also of Muslims around the world.
The FO expressed its unequivocal disapproval and strongly condemned the government of Pakistan’s highly derogatory comments made by two senior officials of India’s ruling party BJP.
“The Indian diplomat was further informed that Pakistan condemns the disciplinary action taken by the BJP government against the said officials, which cannot lessen the pain of Muslims,” the FO said.
