Action Against Those Flouting COVID Norms At Poll Rallies: TN govt

Mumbai: Tamil Nadu Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan Monday visited a bus station in Chennai, inspected fever camps and also urged people to follow COVID-19-appropriate behaviour.

He also warned that strict actions will be taken against violating the Covid norms.

Radhakrishnan said that Tamil Nadu had reduced COVID-19 cases with less than 150 cases till February 10.

Less than 500 cases in Chennai and the state.

“Now we are reaching 1500 cases per day but we have ramped up the RT-PCR tests from 50000 to 75000. Chief secretary had conducted a meeting of all collectors in the presence of the chief electoral officer and the public has been satisfied with following COVID appropriate behaviour,” he said.

The Department of Health and Family Welfare of Tamil Nadu conducted a COVID awareness camp and randomized RTPCR tests. Health officials were seen giving awareness to the general public to wear masks and to pay fines to those who did not wear masks.

Regarding the clusters seen in the state, Radhakrishnan says, “Police, health, revenue and other department working together, doing proper supervision, pointing out the mistakes and getting the collectors to address those errors which are visible.”

“The latest cluster was in a medical transcription company where first we detected one individual, then company and corporation together. It is good that saturation testers revealed them otherwise these would have spread to many more people,” he said.

He said, “Earlier we did 1100 test in a school, one lady tested positive and later we found 57 more cases.”

“We have taken note of it and conveyed to the chief electoral officer that they should strictly enforce rules and take action against violators. Those who are flouting the rules we have to take action against them under the Public Health and Disaster Management Act,” he added.
