All Schools, Colleges In Himachal Pradesh To Stay Shut Till April 21

Mumbai: All educational institutions in Himachal Pradesh have been ordered to stay shut till April 21 in view of the surge in coronavirus cases, an official spokesman said on Friday.

The Himachal Pradesh government had previously announced the closure of educational institutions till April 15.

The decision was reportedly taken in the state Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today

Earlier, the Himachal Pradesh government also decided to ban gatherings with a maximum of 200 for 50 people inside and outside the wedding ceremony. Meanwhile, only 50 persons will be allowed to attend the funeral.

On Wednesday, the state reported nine COVID-19-related deaths and 653 fresh cases with a coronavirus toll of 1,077 and an infection tally of 66,890.

State Special Health Secretary Nipun Jindal said Kangra district had the highest five deaths, followed by one each in Shimla, Sirmaur, Una and Solan districts. Those who succumbed to the virus on Wednesday include five women and four men, he said, adding they were in the age group of 56-94.

Meanwhile, 226 people recovered from the disease in the state, he said. The number of active cases in the state stands at 4,158, he added.
