Arrest Order Issued Against Narayan Rane For ‘Slap’ Remark Against CM Thackeray

Mumbai: Multiple FIRs have been registered against Union Minister Narayan Rane in Maharashtra over his remarks about slapping CM Uddhav Thackeray. Nashik police issued orders to arrest Rane. The complaints were registered in Pune, Nashik and Mahad.

The Nashik Cyber Police registered an FIR on the complaint of the local chief of Shiv Sena, following which the Commissioner of Police issued an order to arrest the Union Minister and formed a team under the leadership of DCP Sanjay Barkund for the same.

According to news agency ANI, another FIR under sections 153 and 505 of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Chaturshringi police station in Pune city following a complaint by Yuva Sena. The third FIR was registered on the basis of a complaint by a Shiv Sena worker in Mahad.

The Union minister later said he had no information about any legal complaint being registered against him, adding that he was not a conman and had not committed any crime. “I have no information that an FIR has been registered against me. I am not a common man. I have not committed any crime. Is it not a crime if someone does not know about August 15? I had said that I would have slapped – these were the words and it is not a crime,” he said.

Rane landed in controversy while addressing the BJP’s Jan Ashirwad Yatra in Raigad district on Monday. The BJP leader, who was recently inducted into the Narendra Modi cabinet, and a former Shiv Sena chief minister, said Thackeray had forgotten the year of independence during his address to the people of the state on August 15 had he been present at the spot, he would have slapped him.

“It is shameful that the Chief Minister does not know the year of independence. He leaned back during his speech to ask about the counting of the years of independence. If I were there, I would give (him) a slap,” Rane said.

Rane said Thackeray was to witness the year of independence along with his colleagues during the speech that day.
