Assam Imposes 10 pm-6 am Curfew, Bans Non-Vaccinated From Public Places Starting Jan 15

Mumbai: Amid the COVID-19 surge, the Assam government changed the night curfew timings to 10 pm-6 am from tomorrow. From January 15, non-vaccinated people are banned from public places.

“The night curfew timings have been changed to 10 pm to 6 am, starting from 6 am on January 8 (Saturday),” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters.

As per the new order, only fully immunized people will be allowed to enter hotels, restaurants, government offices, shopping malls and multiplexes.

“Restaurants should be allowed to operate at 100% seating capacity with fully vaccinated persons. No permanent customers will be allowed,” Sarma said.

The Chief Minister said that only Covid-19 patients falling in the BPL (below poverty line) category will be given free treatment by the Assam government.

“As far as the number of hospital beds is concerned, Assam is in good shape. We have over 8,700 beds with 2,633 oxygen beds and 1,000 ICU beds for COVID-19 patients. By the time Covid-19 peaks, we will have 25,000 hospital beds,” Sarma said.

All schools up to class VIII in Kamrup-Mahanagar district and up to class V in all other districts will remain closed from January 8. No physical classes will be allowed till January 30.

The revised directive comes at a time when the state has reported seven more, including the cases of a foreign returnee, the Omicron version, taking Assam’s new version’s tally to nine.

“Of the seven, six do not have any travel history. Genome sequencing test results of seven COVID-positive patients came yesterday and all have been infected with the Omicron variant. Of them, only one had returned from a foreign country and others did not have any travel history,” National Health Mission Director Lakshmanan S told news agency PTI.
