All International Travellers To Undergo 7-Day Home Quarantine On Arrival: Govt

Mumbai: The government on Friday said that all international arrivals in India will have to undergo 7-day mandatory home quarantine and also undertake the RT-PCR COVID-19 test on the eighth day of arrival in India.

If tested negative, they will be required to undergo home quarantine for 7 days. Those who test positive will be taken to an isolation facility.

A notification by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) states that all international travellers entering India will have to undergo a mandatorily 7-day quarantine upon arrival in the country.

In a new set of guidelines, the ministry said, all incoming international passengers will be subjected to thermal screening on arrival at Indian airports. Passengers found to be symptomatic during the screening will be immediately isolated and taken to a medical facility as per health protocols. If tested positive, their contacts will be identified and managed as per the prescribed protocol.

All passengers from designated countries at risk will be tested on arrival, the cost of which will be borne by the passenger. Thereafter, the passenger will have to wait for the test result before leaving or taking the connecting flight. If the test is negative, they will have to undergo home isolation for 7 days, followed by RT-PCR again on the 8th day.

The passengers will have to re-upload the results of the RT-PCR test for COVID-19 conducted on the 8th day on the Air Suvidha portal, which will be monitored by the respective states or union territories.

If negative, they will self-monitor their health for the next 7 days. However, if such passengers test positive, their samples should be sent to the INSACOG laboratory network for genomic testing at a later stage. They will be managed in an isolation facility and treated as per the prescribed standard protocol including contact tracing as mentioned in para.

The contacts of such positive cases should be kept under home quarantine monitored strictly by the concerned state government as per laid down protocol.
