BJP Diverting Attention From Real Issues By Blaming Nehru: Manmohan Singh

Mumbai: Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh said on Thursday that the BJP-led government at the Center, including former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, is accusing history of diverting attention from solving people’s problems and correcting their wrong policies.

He said, “While people are facing the problem of inflation and unemployment, on the other hand, the present government, which came to power for the last seven and a half years, instead of admitting its mistakes and rectifying them, he is still blaming first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for people’s problems,” Singh said.

His remarks came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s relentless attack on Nehru during election rallies in Punjab, Goa and Rajya Sabha. Also Read: Goa Could Have Been Freed ‘Within Hours’ In 1947 If Nehru Wanted: PM Modi

Addressing a rally in Goa, PM Modi attacked the Congress, saying it “did not liberate” the state for nearly 15 years after independence and that the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru did not send armed forces to the state which was under Portuguese rule at that time.

The former Prime Minister also emphasized that PM Modi should maintain dignity (prestige) instead of blaming the country’s history as one cannot escape responsibility by blaming others.

“I think the position of the PM has a special significance. The PM should maintain dignity instead of blaming history. When I was the Prime Minister for 10 years, I spoke through my work. I have never I also did not let the country lose. Its reputation. In front of the world. I have never diminished the pride of India.”

Singh also slammed the BJP-led government at the Centre for its “fake nationalism and divisive policy”.

He also said that the NDA government at the Centre has failed in its foreign policy.
