BJP Accuses Congress of ‘Character Assassination’ Of Kangana Ranaut

Mumbai: The Himachal Pradesh BJP on Sunday lodged a complaint against the Congress and the Hamirpur Youth Congress Club for allegedly exploiting images from Kangana Ranaut’s films to paint the actor and Mandi Lok Sabha candidate for the BJP in a disparaging light.

As a result of their use of derogatory, scandalous, and unacceptable language on social media, the BJP urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take necessary legal action against them.

The BJP claimed in their complaint to the ECI—which was copied to the chief election officer of Himachal Pradesh—that the Congress had instructed its various wings to defame Kangana on social media. The Hamirpur Youth Congress Club made “derogatory double meaning remarks” and utilized an image of Kangana from her “artistic pursuits” to paint her in a negative light.

Congress officials have been accused of “serious violations” of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860; the Representation of People Act (RPA), 1951; and the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), according to a complaint submitted by BJP state media in-charge Karan Nanda.

According to the statement, the remarks meet the criteria for “corrupt practice” and the cases also attract offenses under the applicable sections of the Information Technology Act of 2000 and the Indian Penal Code.

“It is the duty of every artist to portray the character given to him or her as convincingly as they can and every character has its own challenges and requirements but ignoring this aspect, the Congress was repeatedly using Kangana’s artistic pursuits to portray her in a vulgar manner with intentions to demean her as the remarks are not only derogatory and sexually oriented, undermining the dignity of a woman but are also violative of the mandatory guidelines of the Model Code of Conduct,” the complaint added.

10,000 people follow the Hamirpur Youth Congress Club page where a picture of Kangana with a comment was uploaded, Nanda told PTI.

Along with this, the BJP asked the ECI to consider the Congress’s “dangerous” record of “irresponsible” behavior. It further stated that the leaders of Congress are “habitual offenders” who have a track record of breaking the law.

The party went on to say that the Congressmen had previously made offensive and disparaging comments about Kangana.

Earlier, Congress spokesperson Supriya Srinate said, “Mandi main ladkion ke kya bhav chal rahe hain,” shortly after the BJP announced Kangana as its contender for the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency. The BJP responded angrily to it, filing a complaint with ECI against the Congress leader as a result, according to the complaint.
