Pawan Singh Withdraws From Asansol BJP Candidacy

Mumbai: Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh, initially slated as the BJP candidate for Asansol in Bengal, has chosen to withdraw from the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Singh expressed gratitude to the party leadership but cited personal reasons for his decision. This unexpected move alters the political landscape in Asansol, with implications for the BJP’s electoral strategy in the region.

Taking to X, Pawan Singh wrote, “Pawan Singh tweets, “I express my heartfelt gratitude to the top leadership of Bharatiya Janata Party. The party trusted me and declared me as the candidate from West Bengal’s Asansol but due to some reason, I will not be able to contest the elections from Asansol…”.

Notably, on the BJP’s initial list of 195 candidates, Pawan Singh was one of four Bhojpuri celebrities running for office. Actors Manoj Tiwari of Bhojpuri fame, Ravi Kishan of Gorakhpur fame, and Dinesh Lal Yadav “Nirahua” of Azamgarh fame have all announced their candidacies. Tiwari will run in the North East Delhi constituency.
