Delhi Approves 10% Quota For General Category In Govt Jobs

Mumbai: In a recent development the Delhi government has approved 10 per cent reservation for the Economically Weaker Sections in government jobs.

With this, Delhi has joined the states like Bihar, Gujarat, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, which have already applied 10% quota for those poor who are of high caste.

This quota is above and above the 50 per cent reservation taken by Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes, up to 60 per cent of the total reservation.

At the beginning of this year, the Rajya Sabha passed a resolution to give 10% quota to the bill after the debate in January. Bill seeks amendment in Article 15 of the Constitution, which allows states to make special provisions for the advancement of any financially vulnerable class of citizens by adding a section.

This bill does not own the annual income less than 8 lakh rupees and does not own more than five acres of agricultural land, as the economically weaker sections defined in the general category to avail the reservation in government jobs as well as educational institutions. To do is the criteria.

This does not provide quota for those who have flat of 1000 sq ft or more, in the notified municipal area, land of 100 square yards and 200 yards of land in the non-notified area.
