Delhi’s Law & Order Is Under Centre: Sharad Pawar On Jahangirpuri Violence

Mumbai: NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Monday reacted to the violence in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri during a Hanuman Jayanti procession, saying that Delhi’s law and order situation comes under the Central government.

“We have never heard of communal violence during Ram Navami. The reason for this is the BJP and some of their organisations. Law and order situation in Delhi comes under the central government,” Pawar said in Bengaluru today.

He also remarked that he would say “no” if any state or central government wanted to ban PFI. “Any organization other than political parties which creates problems… can create unrest,” he said.

In recent days, there have been reports of communal clashes from different parts of the country in which many people have been injured and killed. Violent clashes broke out in three states during Ram Navami celebrations earlier this month, followed by scenes of unrest during Hanuman Jayanti last week.

One person was killed and 12 injured in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga, while another person died in clashes in Gujarat’s Anand district’s Khambhat. Meanwhile, celebrations were clouded in Madhya Pradesh with stone-pelting, violence and arson. One death is also reported in the clash.

Clashes also broke out during Hanuman Jayanti celebrations in New Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area on Saturday, in which nine policemen and a civilian were injured. The investigation of this dispute has been handed over to the Crime Branch and 14 teams have been formed to take it forward.
