Diesel Becomes Cheaper After 31 Days, Petrol Price Remains Unchanged

Mumbai: Petrol prices remained unchanged in most of the country for the 32nd day on Wednesday, while diesel rates fell by up to 21 paise after 31 days.

The price of diesel has come down by 20 paise in Delhi. According to the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) price list, it revised the diesel price in the national capital from Rs 89.87 per litre to Rs 89.67 per litre.

However, there was no change in petrol prices during the day. The previous hike took the price of petrol in Delhi closer to Rs 102 per litre. The price of petrol in New Delhi has gone up to Rs 101.84 per litre.

Diesel prices in Mumbai saw a reduction of 21 paise, with the rate revised to Rs 97.24 per litre from Rs 97.45 per litre. Like in Delhi, petrol prices remained unchanged and stood at Rs 107.83 per litre. On May 29, the financial hub became the first metro in the country where petrol was selling above Rs 100 per litre.

The price of diesel has come down by 19 paise in Chennai. With this, the cost of one litre of fuel has come down from Rs 94.39 to Rs 94.20. Petrol price, which was recently cut by Rs 3 after the DMK government announced tax cuts, remained unchanged and was sold at Rs 99.47 per litre.

Petrol and diesel prices were reduced by Rs 0.16 and Rs 0.14 per litre respectively in April. Retail sales of diesel increased by Rs 4.42 per litre in May, Rs 4.03 in June and Rs 0.69 in July (till July 16).

Domestic fuel rates are benchmarked to international oil prices as India is 85 per cent dependent on imports to meet its oil needs. International rates have increased since last month due to a pick-up in consumption. The relentless price hike has pushed petrol prices above Rs 100 per litre petrol, diesel prices on August 18.

Diesel price reduced by 20 paise in Delhi, no change in petrol; Check your city mark in 15 states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Bihar and Punjab and some districts of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

Rates are also above the sensitive Rs 100 per litre level in four Union Territories including Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. Diesel, the most used fuel in the country, is above that level in some places in Rajasthan, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh.
