Domestic LPG Cylinder Price Hiked By ₹25 For 2nd Time In 15 Days Across India

Mumbai: The price of a domestic LPG cylinder has been increased by ₹25 from September 1. A 14.2 kg cylinder now costs ₹884.50 in Delhi and Mumbai as against ₹859.50 earlier, while in Chennai, the price reached ₹900.50. This is the second price hike in around 15 days.

The price of commercial LPG cylinder has also been raised by Rs 75/cylinder by the big oil marketing PSUs.

Accordingly, a fully filled 14.2 kg non-subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder in the national capital will now cost Rs 884.50. With this, the price of a 14.2 kg LPG gas cylinder in Kolkata will be Rs 911.

The price of non-subsidised LPG cylinders was increased by Rs 25 per cylinder with effect from August 17. Earlier on July 1, the price of the LPG cylinder was increased by Rs 25.50.

As per an ANI report, LPG prices have doubled in the last seven years. An LPG refill which was priced at Rs 410.50 per cylinder on 1 March 2014 is now Rs 859.50, which is more than double.

At present, the government provides 12 subsidized LPG cylinders of 14.2 kg each to a family every year. The amount of subsidy given by the government on the annual quota of 12 refills varies from month to month.

LPG prices in the country are determined by the prevailing crude oil prices in international markets and rupee-dollar exchange rates.

LPG rates differ in different parts of the country due to local taxes. Generally, the prices of non-subsidised LPG cylinders are revised on a monthly basis and any changes are implemented on the first day of every month.

The hike in the LPG comes at a time when petrol and diesel rates are at record highs across the country. Petrol prices have already crossed the RS 100 mark in the country.
