Expel Me If You Want Me To Join BJP: Shivpal To Akhilesh

Mumbai: Reacting to SP chief Akhilesh Yadav’s remark that why was the BJP delaying induction of Shivpal Yadav, the latter said that if Akhilesh wanted him to join BJP then he should expel him from the party.

“It’s an irresponsible and childish statement. I’m one of 111 MLAs of SP who won in recent assembly elections. If he wants to send me to BJP, then he should expel me from the party,” Shivpal Yadav, who is also Akhilesh’s uncle, said. Shivpal won the recent assembly polls from Jaswantnagar on an SP ticket.

The dispute between Shivpal and Akhilesh is going on for years. The senior SP leader had also formed his own party, Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party. However, ahead of the assembly elections, Shivpal rejoined the SP on the call of Akhilesh Yadav, who was demanding the removal of the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government. But in this election, BJP won with a huge margin.

The tussle between Shivpal and Akhilesh started soon after the first meeting of the SP leaders after losing the election. Akhilesh Yadav called a meeting in which he was declared the leader of the party, but Shivpal Yadav was not invited to the meeting. He was not happy with this and said that despite being an MLA, he was not invited to the party meeting.

He said he waited for two days and cancelled all his programs for that meeting but he wasn’t invited. “I am an MLA from Samajwadi Party but still not invited. I will return to Etawah,” he had said.

Since then there were speculations that he might join the BJP. Last month, Shivpal met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, leading to speculation that he might quit the SP.

Against this background, Akhilesh asked why the BJP was delaying its move to include his uncle. He’s said it before. But Shivpal has been saying till now that if Akhilesh wants him to join BJP, then he should be thrown out of SP.
