Former Punjab Congress President Sunil Jakhar Joins BJP

Mumbai: Senior Congress leader and former chief of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) Sunil Jakhar on Thursday joined BJP in presence of party president JP Nadda in Delhi.

Addressing the media after BJP national president JP Nadda joined the party headquarters in New Delhi, Jakhar remarked that it was not easy leaving the party of his 50-year-old ex, which, he said, which, he said, three generations of his family served.

Nadda called it a matter of happiness that a leader with such a vast political experience was joining the BJP.

“I welcome Sunil Jakhar to Bharatiya Janata Party. He is an experienced political leader who made a name for himself during his political career. I am confident he will play a big role in strengthening the party in Punjab,” said Nadda.

Nadda said the BJP was emerging as the voice of opposition in Punjab. He said that many leaders from the Akali Dal and the Congress with national interest in mind are joining the party.

In March this year, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ousted the Congress from power in Punjab.

Currently, the Sonia Gandhi-led organization is in power on its own in only two states, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.

Notably, Hardik Patel, who was the Congress’s working president in Gujarat, too, tendered his resignation, just months ahead of assembly elections in the state.
