Heavy Traffic On Mumbai-Pune Expressway After Oil Tanker Overturns

Mumbai: Heavy traffic has been reported on Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Saturday after an oil tanker overturned in one of the lanes causing an oil spill near the area where the now-demolished Amrutanjan bridge stood, a police official said.

The oil spill occurred after a speeding tanker overturned at around 5.30 am on the Pune-Mumbai lane of the six-lane expressway, the official said.

The official said the incident took place near the spot where the British-era Amritanjan bridge stood before it was demolished two years ago.

“Vehicles going towards Mumbai are completely disrupted. Hundreds of vehicles are stuck in a heavy traffic jam. 30 km of the expressway has been affected due to the incident,” he said.

According to preliminary information, a container truck skidded due to an oil spill.

Teams of Highway Police, local police and other officials are trying to restore traffic on the expressway. The traffic movement on the Mumbai-Pune lane of the expressway is normal, he said.
