‘How I Represent Women On Screen Is Very Important!’: Bhumi Pednekar
Mumbai: Bhumi Pednekar one of the finest actor who made her debut an overweight bride in the company’s romantic comedy Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015). Recently, speaking about the characterization of women in her films, actor Bhumi Pednekar said on Thursday that the way she introduces women to the screen through her roles is very important to her.
Bhumi said, “For me, how I represent women on screen is very important. Cinema has the power to influence people and I think the portrayal of women, we can push the messaging of equality, of independence.”
He said, “I have looked for such characters and played them with all my heart. I am fortunate to get these characters who have left their mark.”
Talking about the roles he got in his career, the actor of ‘Sand Ki Aankh’ thanked his filmmakers for choosing him for vivid roles.
“I thank our visionary filmmakers who chose to tell the stories of these illustrious women to the people of their country. It has been an honour to be a part of their cinema and bring such courageous, fantastic, confident women on screen,” she said.
Pednekar said that through her films, she wants to make people realize how equality in society should be achieved.
“My journey in cinema has just begun. I will keep trying to find more women whose stories I want to tell on screen. I feel when people see such women and their lives, their struggles, their pain, their dreams, their victories, there can be a shift in perspective,” she said.
“It can help us understand how far we are from achieving equality and how much women can contribute to strengthening our country and our society,” she said.
Bhumi was last seen in Pati Patni Aur Woh (2019) The film also featured Ananya Panday and Karthik Aaryan. It had worldwide earnings of over ₹117 crores.
Pednekar will soon be seen as a lead lady in Akshay Kumar’s ‘Durgavati’ and award-winning director Alankrita Srivastava’s ‘Dolly Kitty and Woh Chamke Sittare’.
