If Speaking Against Savarkar Is Anti-National Then Put Me In Jail: Cong Leader

Mumbai: Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao said if speaking against Veer Savarkar is anti-national, then he should be put in jail.

“BJP is saying that if anyone speaks against Veer Savarkar then he is a traitor. Yes, I am saying that I am speaking against him. If I am a traitor, arrest me and put me in jail.”

In a letter to the director of the Salarjung Museum in Hyderabad, Rao said the name of former prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was nowhere but photographs of Veer Savarkar adorned the walls of the museum.

No one knows who Veer Savarkar was and what was his contribution to the struggle for Indian independence, Rao said and called him “just an RSS worker”.

“This is nothing but suppressing the great contribution and sacrifice of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who had to undergo imprisonment for fighting against the British rule during the freedom struggle. As everyone knows Nehru was not just the first Prime Minister of India, but also an architect of modern India. Distortion or diversion of history cannot be tolerated anymore,” he added.

Seeking clarity from the director of the museum, the Congress leader said he would like to know whether he had done the act on his own or had received instructions from the Indian government to put up Veer Savarkar’s photographs and neglect Nehru’s great services.

He said that this is a great insult to the first Prime Minister of India and a well-planned conspiracy.

He said that the museum should display the paintings of great freedom fighters like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Mahatma Gandhi, and others within a week’s time otherwise, the Congress Party will chalk out and implement its action plan, he said.
