Impossible To Resume Inter-State Bus, Train Or Air Services After May 3: Tripura CM Biplab Deb

Mumbai: With just three days left to end the ongoing lockout for Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb, he said on Thursday that it was unlikely that the state would return to normal on Monday.

Deb said it is ‘impossible’ to resume inter-state bus, train or air services after May 3 and said the lockdown would have to be ended.

Deb said, “It is impossible to resume inter-state bus, train or air services after May 3. People were made aware of the status of COVID-19 to all political parties in the state.”

“We could not find a way to roll back the lockdown as it is the only viable means of breaking the chain of coronavirus outbreaks. It seems that we will have to continue with the lockdown and we will have to roll back some restrictions in a phased manner,” he added.

His remarks came after the government convened an all-party meeting in the state. Eighteen political parties including the People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), CPI (M), Congress and Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) attended the meeting.

Deb further stated that almost all the poor people in the state received financial benefits ranging from Rs 2000 to Rs 5000 with free rations during the lockdown period.

According to the latest data shared by the Union Health Ministry, two cases of coronovirus have been seen in Tripura so far. Both patients have been discharged, the data indicated.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronovirus cases in the country increased to 33,000 on Thursday. 23,651 of these are active cases. While 8,324 people have been released/discharged, 1074 deaths have been reported across the country till 8 am on Thursday.
