India Breaks Pak’s World Record By Waving 78,000 National Flags Simultaneously

Mumbai: India has entered the Guinness Book of World Records for the simultaneous waving of national flags, breaking Pakistan’s record created 18 years ago in the same activity. Union Home Minister Amit Shah was present during the historical event.

On April 23, India entered the Guinness Book of World Records by waving 78,220 flags simultaneously at the ‘Veer Kunwar Singh Vijayotsav’ event in Bhojpur, Bihar, said the Ministry of Culture. Representatives from the Guinness Book of World Records witnessed the effort and attendees were asked to wear bands for physical identification.

“The highest number of people waving the flag was received by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Culture, Government of India (India) to celebrate Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ at Jagdishpur, Bhojpur, Bihar, India on April 23, 2022,” reads Guinness World Records certificate.

In the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, 78,220 people unfurled the national flag and created a new record and created history in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday at Dalour Maidan in the Bhojpur district of Bihar.

Earlier, a world record was set by Pakistan about 18 years ago wherein 56,000 Pakistanis waved their national flag at an event in Lahore.

“On the occasion of the birth anniversary of the great freedom fighter Babu Veer Kunwar Singh, the Indian National Flag was hoisted for a full five minutes in Jagdishpur, thereby celebrating the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence. The flag was waved by people at the ‘Vijayotsav program’ held at Jagdishpur on April 23,” Union Minister of State for Home affairs Nityanand Rai told ANI

“At the event, 78,220 people unfurled the national flag under the leadership of Home Minister Amit Shah. This is a new world record for hoisting the national flag. It is commendable for the people of Bihar to voluntarily hoist the flag in such a large number in one place. This figure was confirmed by an agency that looks after such world records,” Rai said.

Veer Kunwar Singh fought his last battle near Jagdishpur on April 23, 1858, and defeated the East India Company in this battle. Kunwar Singh died in service to the nation after taking down the Union Jack flag from Jagdishpur Fort.
