‘It’s A Late Decision, Victory For All Farmers’: AIMIM Chief Owaisi On-Farm Laws Repeal

Taking a hit at Prime Minister Modi, Owaisi alleged that three-farm laws were made to satisfy Modi’s ego

Mumbai: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday said that all the farmers have achieved victory after the central government decided to repeal three farm laws.

However, he added that the decision was late and alleged that the government got scared.

“It’s a late decision. I’ve always said that this government gets scared when the public comes out on the streets to protest. This is a victory for all farmers,” said Owaisi.

Taking a hit at Prime Minister Modi, Owaisi further alleged that these laws were made to satisfy Modi’s ego.

“From day one, the opposition had been saying that three Farm Laws are unconstitutional. Modi government had no constitutional right to make such laws. These laws were formed only for the satisfaction of Modi’s ego,” the AIMIM chief said.

He added, “Due to these black laws 700 farmers had to lose their lives. Had he kept aside his ego and Constitution before him, these laws wouldn’t have been formed and farmers need not have died.”

According to a report of October 2021 by the Times of India, nearly 600 persons have lost lives during the year-long protests.

In a stunning move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced the repealing of the three Central farm laws.

In his address to the nation, PM Modi said, “We have decided to repeal all three farm laws. We will start the constitutional process to repeal all the three laws in the parliament session that starts at the end of this month.”

The three contentious farm laws -Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; (2) Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act 2020; and (3)Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 was enacted by the Parliament in September 2020.

Since November 2020, thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have been camping outside Delhi, demanding that the laws be withdrawn. There had been several rounds of talks between the farmer leaders and the Centre but the impasse remained.
