Judge Who Ordered Video Survey Of Gyanvapi Mosque Gets Threat, Security Increased

Mumbai: Civil Judge Ravi Diwakar, who passed orders for the video survey of Gyanvapi mosque, has received a threat letter from the Islamic Agaz Movement.

The official had passed the order for a video survey of the mosque premises, which had in turn amplified claims that there are Hindu motifs and a shivling within the area.

According to the police, a total of nine police personnel have been deployed for the security of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate and 10 police personnel have been deployed for the security of the District Judge. Officials said that the security of the civil judge of Varanasi and his mother in Lucknow is also being reviewed.

Varanasi Police Commissioner A Satish Ganesh said, “After being alerted by the civil judge about the letter, which also has several attachments, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Varun Zone) has been assigned to investigate the matter.”

The judge on Tuesday wrote to the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) of the Uttar Pradesh government and the Varanasi Police Commissionerate saying that he had received a hand-written threatening letter from an organization called Islamic Aagaz Movement.

Diwakar sought action, saying the letter – through registered post – was written by Kashif Ahmed Siddiqui on behalf of the group.

A purported copy of the letter that has gone viral on social media states that the judge will “declare the mosque as a temple” because he was “pagan” and criticizes his decision to allow video inspection.

“You have made a statement that inspection of the Gyanvapi mosque complex is a normal process. You are an idolater, you will declare the mosque a temple. No Muslim can expect a right verdict from a ‘kafir, idolatrous’ Hindu judge.”
