Karan Johar’s Takht To Kick Off In February 2020

Mumbai: After romantic sagas like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Karan Johar announced his first period-drama, Takht, in August last year.

The filmmaker described his directorial as an “epic battle for the majestic Mughal throne,” more or less like the Game of Thrones. Soon after, its star-studded cast was revealed—Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar.

However, after the failure of Kalank, there were speculations that the ambitious project had been shelved. But as per reports it has been reported that KJo is preparing to roll with Takht early next year.

The film kicks off in February from a start to finish schedule. Since it is a period drama, the team is currently focused on the script, sets and locations.

Karan will host acting workshops for his cast with diction and body language coaches to get the nuances right.

“Everyone has a distinct look. While Anil will have to put on some extra kilos, Ranveer and Vicky will have to look lean and mean,” informs the source. The film, set in the Mughal era, is a tale of two warring brothers, inspired by the fight for the throne between Shah Jahan’s two sons, Aurangzeb and Dara Shukoh. Ranveer plays the latter with Vicky on board as his arch-rival.

Kareena plays the duo’s sister, modelled on Jahanara Begum, the first lady of the Mughals, while Anil is the patriarch. The details of Alia, Janhvi and Bhumi’s roles are under wraps, but all the characters are related to Shah Jahan’s family with the women at the core of the conflict.
