Loudspeakers At Mosques Should Be Shut By May 3: Raj Thackeray

Mumbai:  Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray today reiterated his call for loudspeakers in mosques to be shut down till May 3

Otherwise, he warned the Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra government that MNS workers would play Hanuman Chalisa in front of mosques. Thackeray also advocated the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code and stressed the need to control population growth.

“Loudspeakers in mosques should be shut till May 3rd otherwise, we will play Hanuman Chalisa in speakers. This is a social issue, not a religious one. I want to tell the state government, we will not go back on this subject, do whatever you want to do,” he warned during a public rally in the city.

Thackeray on Tuesday also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to implement Uniform Civil Code in this country and responded to allegations that his political stand kept changing.

Earlier this month, Thackeray had issued a similar ultimatum to the state government, calling for the removal of such loudspeakers.

“I am not against prayers, you can pray at your home, but the government should take a decision on removing mosque loudspeakers. I am warning now… Remove loudspeakers or else will put loudspeakers in front of the mosque and play Hanuman Chalisa,” he had said.

Soon after this, MNS leader Yashwant Killedar had played ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ on a loudspeaker at Shiv Sena party headquarters and was subsequently stopped by the police.
