Manipur Elections 2022 Rescheduled, Polling On February 28 And March 5: EC

The Election Commission had earlier announced that polling in Phase I and II in Manipur Election 2022 would be held on February 27 and March respectively

Mumbai: The Election Commission has amended the dates of Manipur Election 2022. The Election Commission announced that the first phase of Manipur elections will be held on February 28 while the second phase of polling will be held on March 5.

The Election Commission had earlier announced that polling in Phase I and II in Manipur Election 2022 would be held on February 27 and March respectively.

Announcing the revised dates for the elections, the poll panel said it visited Manipur on February 7-8 to review election preparedness and held interaction with political parties, chief secretary, director-general of police and other state-level officers, chief electoral officer, district election officers and superintendents of police, director general Assam Rifles and other law enforcement agencies.

The Election Commission, taking into account the inputs, representations, past precedents, logistics, ground conditions and all facts and circumstances in the matter, has decided under Section 153 of Representation of the People Act, 1951 to revise the dates of a poll of General Election to Legislative Assembly of Manipur, the poll panel stated in its order.

Earlier, the poll panel had rescheduled the date of the Punjab election 2022 poll from February 14 to February 20 after all political parties demanded a change on account of Guru Ravi Das Jayanti, which falls on February 16.
