Manipur To Get New AIIMS, Announces PM Modi In Virtual Address

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced the construction of a new AIIMS in Manipur. The creation of AIIMS, Manipur will be under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Scheme of the Government of India.

“We are also planning to build an AIIMS in Manipur, this is the time of Atmanirbhar Bharat. This decade is the decade of development and progress and Manipur is moving fast in this direction today,” the PM stated.

Atmanirbhar Bharat is often referred to as the Prime Minister’s vision to make India a self-reliant and self-reliant country. With the establishment of AIIMS in Manipur, the total number of AIIMS in India has gone up to 24.

At present, there are 23 AIIMS campuses in India, out of which 19 are fully functional medical colleges and the rest are under construction. AIIMS has campuses in more than 10 cities like New Delhi, Bhopal, Patna, Bilaspur and others.

With the coming of the COVID-19 pandemic, the world saw a shortage of doctors, but at the same time, more and more medical candidates came into existence. In India, final year medical students, residents came to the rescue in India’s handling of the pandemic.

The decision to create another AIIMS to increase the number of doctors in the country and to make medical courses more accessible to the candidates proves fruitful.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS was established in 1956 as an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament. The main objective of the creation of a medical institute in India was to introduce and develop the pattern of teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in all branches. AIIMS has contributed to the level of medical education in India today.

Lakhs of students appear for the NEET exam every year, which allows them to pursue medicine in various medical colleges in India. The creation of AIIMS in Manipur will help increase the reach of medical institutions across the country and make medical and medical education more accessible to the candidates.
