Mumbai: Alleging BJP of using enforcement agencies to threaten BSP supremo Mayawati, Samajwadi Party MLA Manoj Kumar Paras said that Mayawati was helping BJP out of fear in the Uttar Pradesh election.
MLA from Nagina Paras said, ‘BSP supremo is under pressure from BJP and is helping the party in this election.
Nagina, a Muslim majority constituency in the Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh, has been reserved for SC/ST since 1974. It has been a stronghold of the Samajwadi Party in this part of western UP. In the second phase of UP elections, polling will be held in Nagina on 14 February 2022.
Manoj Kumar Paras, a two-time MLA from Nagina, has been fielded from this seat this time as well.
Addressing a gathering in Kheda, a predominantly SC/ST village, Manoj Paras said, “I am not against BSP. I am not against Behenji (Mayawati). She is also my leader, but today, BJP is in their possession.”
“They have terrorized them by saying that if you don’t help us (BJP), we will send you (Mayawati) to jail,” he said.
Paras said that BJP had threatened Mayawati to seal her property using CBI. He said, ‘Behenji is helping BJP out of this fear. The same BJP is trying to destroy the constitution written by Babasaheb.
Paras said, “That’s why I appeal to all of you to vote for Behenji. If BJP is rooted out, then the fear of CBI and ED will also be removed from Mayawati Ji.”
BJP has fielded Dr Yashwant while BSP has given a ticket to Brajpal Singh. With Nagina being a Muslim-dominated constituency, AIMIM’s Lalita Kumari becomes a candidate to watch out for.
