More Pharma Companies Should Be Allowed To Produce COVID19 Vaccines, Says Nitin Gadkari

Mumbai: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has suggested that more than one pharma company should be allowed to make vaccines against coronavirus as India’s covid vaccination drive hampered due to acute shortages.

The Minister said for Road Transport & Highways that if vaccine demand is more than supply ‘it creates problem’.

“There are 2-3 laboratories in every state. They should be given the formula to produce the Covid19 vaccines. They can give royalty,” Gadkari said.

He said, “Instead of 1, let 10 more companies be given license for vaccine manufacture…Let them supply in the country and later if there’s surplus, they may export.”

However, while addressing Vice-Chancellors of Universities in India virtually, Gadkari said he will also request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring a law for allowing more pharma companies to manufacture life-saving drugs by paying 10% royalty to the patent holder of the drug.

Meanwhile, 2,67,334 fresh Covid19 cases were recorded in last 24 hours. The cumulative caseload stands at 2,54,96,330, including 32,26,719 active cases, 2,19,86,363 recoveries and 2,83,248 deaths, the Union health ministry said.
