Mumbai: Maharashtra BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis alleged MP Navneet Rana was being mistreated at Byculla jail, not given drinking water and wasn’t allowed to go to the washroom at the night.
During a press conference, Fadnavis said that the Sena was afraid of one woman. “The whole government machinery is scared of one woman. It is very shameful to keep a woman in custody overnight when no charges are proved against her. The way the government has acted against the Rana family shows that reciting Hanuman Chalisa is not correct. Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly claimed that MP Navneet Rana was abused in jail after her husband MLA Ravi Rana was arrested by Mumbai Police.

Mumbai Police shifted Independent MP Navneet Rana to Byculla Women’s Jail, while her MLA husband Ravi Rana was taken to Taloja Jail in Navi Mumbai amid tight security, an official said on Monday.
The couple was arrested on Saturday after they were called to chant Hanuman Chalisa outside Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s private residence ‘Matoshree’ in Mumbai, which was opposed by Shiv Sainiks.
The Mumbai Police later charged the politician couple with sedition. A Mumbai court on Sunday sent the Rana couple to 14-day judicial custody.
After this, late on Sunday night, Navneet Rana, MP from Amravati, Maharashtra, was taken to Byculla Women’s Jail.
Her husband Ravi Rana, MLA from Badnera in Amravati, was earlier taken to Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai, but after completing legal formalities due to space constraints, he was shifted to Taloja Jail in Navi Mumbai. the officer said.
Earlier, Rana was charged under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, caste, place of birth, residence, language, etc. and acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony) and 34 (common intention). The case was registered. was recorded. A case was registered under sections 37(1) and 135 of the Indian Penal Code and the Bombay Police Act.
Later the police also added IPC section 124-A (sedition) in the case against him.
Under Section 124-A of the IPC, the offence of sedition is committed when any person, by words or otherwise, attempts to cause hatred or contempt or to dissatisfy or incite dissatisfaction with the Government established by law.
The police had registered another FIR against Rana for resisting arrest and obstructing police duty at his residence in suburban Khar, the official said.
