“New Defence Office Complexes Will Make The Working Of Forces More Convenient”: PM Modi

Rs 775 crore was allocated for the construction of these complexes

Mumbai: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two new office complexes of the Defence Ministry in Delhi. One at Kasturba Gandhi (KG) Marg in central Delhi and the other at the Africa Avenue Road near Chanakyapuri.

Along with Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, and Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat were present. Indian Army Chief General MM Manoj Mukund Naravane, IAF Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria, and Indian Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh also attended.

“Modern defence offices will go a long way in effectively carrying work related to the nation’s security. New defence office complexes will further strengthen efforts to make the working of forces more convenient,” PM said after inaugurating the two buildings. While addressing, PM Modi also said that Delhi is progressing in line with the ‘New India’ vision.

Rs 775 crore was allocated for the construction of these complexes by the Defence Ministry.

More than 7,000 officers and staff belonging to 27 different organizations will be working in these offices. The attached offices of the Defence Ministry, service headquarters, and other subordinate offices will be placed at new office complexes. The offices are built for civilian and military officers whose offices had to be rebuilt due to the central vista complex.

The new buildings which are under the Central Vista Development Redevelopment Master Plan provide a modern eco-friendly and green building environment. The KG Marg and Africa Avenue complexes would be used to relocate 14 and 13 different offices, respectively.

A Joint Coordination Committee — including representatives of the Department of Military Affairs, Department of Defence Production, Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (ESW), Department of Defence R&D, and three Services — was constituted to coordinate various requirements of specific organizations, space allocation, common amenities and many more.
