No Entry In Hotels, Malls For Unvaccinated In Tamil Nadu’s Madurai After 1 Week

Mumbai: District Collector of Tamil Nadu’s Madurai, Aneesh Sekhar, on Saturday announced that people who have not received even a single dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will not be allowed to enter hotels, shopping malls and other public places after one week.

According to Madurai District Collector Anish Shekhar, people without vaccination will not be allowed to enter ration shops, markets, hotels, cinemas, shopping malls and other commercial establishments. The decision was reportedly taken after a meeting with local officials, MPs and members of various associations. The new rules will come into effect from next Sunday. Also Read: Mumbai’s Latest Home Quarantine Rules Amid Omicron Threat: People In Home Quarantine To Get Call 5 Times A Day

In late November, Tamil Nadu’s health minister indicated that more than 76 per cent of the state’s adult population had received the first dose of the vaccine, while 40% had received the second dose. According to the data available on the CoWIN dashboard on Saturday morning, a total of 25.16 lakh doses of the vaccine have been given in the Madurai district. Of these, a little over 8.42 lakh people have received the second dose.

There are similar restrictions in other parts of the country, with some states making full vaccinations necessary for entry into public places. In Maharashtra, the use of local trains as well as entry into public places such as malls requires a vaccination certificate indicating that the person has received both doses.

Karnataka also announced similar restrictions this week after detecting two Omicron cases. According to the new guidelines, people will have to be fully vaccinated to enter malls and cinema halls. Students will also not be able to attend offline classes if their parents do not get fully vaccinated.
