No Re-Exams For Students Who Were Absent Due To Hijab Protest In K’taka

Mumbai: The Karnataka government said that no re-examinations will be held for students who missed the second PUC exams 2022 while participating in hijab protests. Karnataka Education Minister BC Nagesh said providing the students with a second opportunity was “impossible”.

He said, ‘If we allow students who boycotted practicals for not wearing hijab even after the interim order of the High Court, then another student will come for some other reason and ask for a second chance.”

The practical part of the assessment carries 30 marks while the theory component consists of 70 marks for various subjects in the board exam.

The government was not prepared for them to appear if the children boycotted the college examinations as a protest, even after the interim order of the Karnataka High Court, he had said.

Minister Nagesh said that students of classes 9 and 11, who appear in school-specific examinations, may be allowed to reappear.

In January-February, protests had overtaken Karnataka after various educational institutions denied entry to classes wearing hijab.

A case of contention was hard at the High Court, which on March 15 upheld the government’s ban on Muslim girls wearing the hijab along with the uniform in schools and colleges.
