TMC has fielded Babul Supriyo as its candidate for the Ballygunge assembly by-election in West Bengal.

Speaking to the media, the former Union Minister confirmed that he will file his nomination for the bypoll today with the blessings of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the support of party workers.

“It’s a new journey in politics for me and I will try to better my second inning of politics as compared to the first,” he added.

The bypolls to the Ballygunge assembly constituency will be held on April 12 while the results will be declared on April 16.

The elections are seen as a battle for prestige in the state ruled by the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC, which defeated the BJP in the 2021 assembly polls.

The Ballygunge Assembly seat fell vacant following the demise of state Minister Subrata Mukherjee.
