Priyanka Gandhi Termed Demonetisation As ‘Disaster’ And Questioned The BJP-led Centre

On November 8 2016, PM Modi declared the ban on Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 as part of the government's efforts to crack down on black money

Mumbai: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday termed the demonetisation as a “disaster” and asked if the step has been successful, why hasn’t corruption ended and black money returned to the country.

“If note bandi (demonetisation) was successful, why hasn’t corruption ended? Why hasn’t black money come back? Why hasn’t the economy gone cashless? Why hasn’t terrorism been hit? Why hasn’t price rise been reined in?” Gandhi tweeted, using the hashtag ‘DemonetisationDisaster’. Also Read: Not A Single Objective Of Demonetisation Achieved In last 5 Years, Manish Tewari Slams BJP

On November 8 2016, Prime Minister Modi in a televised address to the nation declared the ban on Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 as part of the government’s efforts to crack down on black money.

Meanwhile, Congress Lok Sabha MP Manish Tewa also attacked the BJP-led Centre government and said that it failed to achieve any of its objectives in the last five years.

“Since last five years, not even a single objective had been achieved Cash flow has increased, corruption has no limits and terror financing is happening like it was happening before 2016 Will the Prime Minister now tell the nation that which objectives have been fulfilled and which have not?” he spoke.

Congress has been alleging that demonetisation was not in the interest of people and had adverse effects on the economy, a charge the Modi government has dismissed repeatedly.
