Rajinikanth To Be Honoured With Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Mumbai: Union Minister Prakash Javadekar today announced that Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2019 will be conferred upon actor Rajinikanth

Calling him “one of the greatest actors” in the history of Indian cinema, Javadekar added, “His contribution as actor, producer and screenwriter has been iconic.”

“India every year gives Dada Saheb Phalke award to a film personality. This year this selection has been made by a jury comprising Asha Bhonsle, Mohanlal, Biswajit Chatterjee, Shankar Mahadevan and Subhash Ghai. They unanimously recommended that superstar Rajinikanth be conferred with Dada Saheb Phalke award and we accepted it,” he said.

“Happy to announce #Dadasaheb Phalke award for 2019 to one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema Rajnikant ji. His contribution as actor, producer and screenwriter has been iconic,” Mr. Javadekar later tweeted.

Recently on Twitter, PM Narendra Modi Congratulated the Superstar saying, “Popular across generations, a body of work few can boast of, diverse roles and an endearing personality…that’s Shri @rajinikanth Ji for you. It is a matter of immense joy that Thalaiva has been conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Congratulations to him.”

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India’s highest award in cinema. It is presented annually at the National Film Awards Ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals, an organisation of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The last person to receive the award was Amitabh Bachchan in 2018. For the last three years, there had been no nominee.
