Received India’s Request To Evacuate Indians In Ukraine Via Russian Territory: Russia

Mumbai: Russian Ambassador-designate to India, Denis Alipov, has said, “We are in touch with the Indian authorities for Indians stranded in Kharkiv, and other areas of eastern Ukraine.”

During a press briefing, Alipov said that Russia is in touch with Indian authorities regarding the evacuation of Indian nationals stranded in Kharkiv and other regions of eastern Ukraine.

“We have received a request from India to evacuate all the people trapped there through Russian territory. We are actively working on all ways and means to launch such an operation and provide a humanitarian corridor to evacuate the people there,” he said.

Alipov also expressed his gratitude for India’s impartial stand on the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“We are strategic allies with India. We are grateful to India for the balanced position displayed at the United Nations. India understands the depth of this crisis.”

The designated Russian ambassador also condoled the death of an Indian student in Kharkiv and assured that Russia will do everything in its power to assist in the evacuation of Indian nationals from Ukraine.

He also said that Russia would launch an investigation into the “unfortunate incident” of the Indian student.

Significantly, in Kharkiv on Tuesday, an Indian student was killed in shelling in the area.

Meanwhile, the central government has launched ‘Operation Ganga’ to bring back stranded students and Indian nationals from conflict-torn Ukraine.

The government has also deployed ‘special envoys’ to four neighbouring countries bordering Ukraine to coordinate and monitor the evacuation process of Indian nationals.
